Naruto's full name is Uzumaki Naruto and he is a genin (lowest ninja rank) from Konohagakure. But don't let this fool you as the reason he is only a genin is that he was away for training for three years. The reason for him going away for training for three years is so that he will be able to defend himself when the Akatsuki (bad guys) come to take him for the Kyuubi (nine tails demon fox) inside of him. Naruto's parents had named him after the main character of Jiraiya's first book, making him Naruto's godfather.

Prior to Naruto's birth, his parents died trying to protect him whilst also sealing the nine tails fox inside him. Before Naruto's father the fourth Hokage (fourth leader of the village) has died he requested that his son be treated as a hero, however, only a few people did this whilst the rest viewed him as the demon that lived inside of Naruto and so they despised him and blamed him for what happened to their home. The third Hokage who took the role after the fourth had died since then decreed that no one was to talk about what had happened in the hopes that the villagers children would not grow to hate Naruto as they did this failed as even the children despised him. Apart from the Third Hokage, Iruka Umino (a teacher at the ninja academy) was the only one who acted as a surrogate family to the young Naruto.

Naruto possesses the blue eyes of his father and short spiky hair from his father. From his mother Naruto gained the shape of his eyes and face. He also has 3 whiskers on each side of his face as a symbol that the nine tails resides within him. His favourite colour is orange. Due to him being hated on and left all alone by the villagers as a child he constantly tries to earn the acknowledgment of everyone around him and did so by pulling pranks all around the village.

Even after graduating the academy he still strived to be acknowledged by other. However, as he made more and more connections with other people his aim to be Hokage changed from a statement of acknowledgment to one where he wanted to be strong enough to protect the ones he loved and his home. His two closest friends are Uchiha Sasuke and Haruno Sakura. Naruto is one to fight first and talk later and he rarely wishes to sit still and think things through, he is much more a person who talks through his fists.
